Emmy Winner Wanda Sykes Coming To Silver Legacy

RENO, Nev. (December 16, 2008) - Wanda Sykes has been called "one of the funniest stand up comics" by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly's 25 Funniest People in America. Come see her smart-witted stand up performance on March 28 at 8 p.m. in the Grande Exposition Hall at Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
She began her stand-up career in 1987 when she entered a Washington D.C. area talent competition where she discovered her passion for comedy. Sykes continued to hone her talents at local venues while working as a procurement
Her first big break came when opening for Chris Rock at Caroline’s Comedy Club. In 1997 she joined the writing team on The Chris Rock Show where they were nominated for four Emmys, one of which they won in 1999.
Since that time she has appeared in such films as Pootie Tang and on TV shows such as Curb Your Enthusiam. In 2003 she starred in her own Fox network sitcom, Wanda At Large and the same year appeared in an hour-long Comedy Central special, Tongue Untied. She has served as correspondent for HBO’s Inside the NFL, hosted Comedy Central’s popular show Premium Blend and voices a recurring character named Gladys on Comedy Central’s puppet show Crank Yankers. She has her own show on Comedy Central called Wanda Does It, where she tries out various careers and frequently winds up choosing what career she will try out after scolding someone in an over-the-top fashion who does the particular job.
In addition to her film and television work, she is an author and penned Yeah, I Said It, a book of humorous observations on various topics, published in September 2004.
In 2006 she landed a recurring role on the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine and became a series regular in the second season. She also provided voices for the 2006 films Over The Hedge, Barnyard and Brother Bear 2. She appeared in My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Monster-In-Law and Evan Almighty, the sequel to the Jim Carrey hit Bruce Almighty and License To Wed. Sykes first HBO Comedy Special, titled Wanda Sykes: Sick & Tired, premiered in October 2006 and can recently be heard as the narrator for Applebee’s commercials.
In addition to her Emmy win on The Chris Rock Show she received an American Comedy Award for Outstanding Female Stand-up Comic and in 2002 and 2004 won two more Emmys for her work on Inside The NFL. Other writing credits include the MTV 1999 Video Music Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, the 74th Annual Academy Awards and The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show.
